![]() ![]() Cars drive past him (actually car sounds in the song). Suddenly, he drops dead on the side of the road. A man is walking down a road at dawn after his car broke down while its raining and he is just done with everything. First off, this song does an amazing job painting a picture and telling a story in your mind. Lastly, one of my favorite songs of all time, one that everyone should listen to, There You Are. It is one of those songs that just has an epic build up feel to it. Five Stop Mother Superior Rain is the second best song on the album. The last song, a cover of What a Wonderful World, has some of the greatest guitar work on any Lips album to date. Stand In Line, definitely one of the trippier ones on the album, sporting backwards sounds and loud horn crescendos. Moving on, Take Meta Mars shows off their grunge side with great funky bass. FUN FACT: Wayne Coyne wrote, after making The Soft Bulletin, that Unconscioulsy Screamin' is one of the most F**ked with songs theyve made, meaning it is one of their songs that have undergone the most changes. Definitely one of the best on the album, really shows off the true talent of the early flips. Things get loud when Unconsciously Screamin' comes on. Shine on Sweet Jesus is a surpringly catchy song with a funny uber deep voice during the chorus. ![]() ![]() This album is mind blowing! There a couple duds (Mountain Side, Rainin' Babies, God Walks Among Us Now), but the rest of the songs range from good to sheer perfection. I am in the minority who actually prefer early Lips instead of The Soft Bulletin, Yoshimi, etc. They were placed on Q magazine 's list of the "50 Bands to See Before You Die" in 2002. The group has won three Grammy Awards, including two for Best Rock Instrumental Performance. In February 2007, they were nominated for a BRIT Award for "Best International Act". They later released The Soft Bulletin (1999), which was NME magazine's Album of the Year, followed by the critically acclaimed Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots (2002). Their 1993 album Transmissions from the Satellite Heart included the hit single "She Don't Use Jelly" which broke the band into the mainstream. After signing to Warner Brothers, they released their first record with Warner, Hit to Death in the Future Head (1992). The group recorded several albums and EPs on an indie label, Restless, in the 1980s and early 1990s. Following the departure of long-time bassist Michael Ivins in 2021, Coyne has remained the band's sole consistent member. The band currently consists of Wayne Coyne (vocals, guitar, keyboards), Steven Drozd (guitars, keyboards, bass, drums, vocals), Derek Brown (keyboards, guitars, percussion), Matt Duckworth Kirksey (drums, percussion, keyboards) and Nicholas Ley (percussion, drums). ![]() The cover has promotional photos and the inside sleeve has a story about the early Lips by Scott Booker. The Flaming Lips are an American psychedelic rock band formed in 1983 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Records and go on to record the follow-up album, Hit to Death in the Future HeadĪ music video for the song "Unconsciously Screamin" was shot at a religious theme park called Holyland in Waterbury, Connecticut and was directed by Jim Spring and Jens Jurgensen. This line-up would subsequently be signed by Warner Bros. It is the first Flaming Lips album to feature Jonathan Donahue (also of Mercury Rev) and drummer, Nathan Roberts. It is generally considered among critics to be one of the Flaming Lips' greatest albums. It is a concept album primarily focused on frontman Wayne Coyne's fascination with religion.
